Lodi Adopt-A-Child (LAAC) is always on the lookout for prospective board members. If you have a passion for helping children in our community and willing to invest the time to support our programs, we'd like to talk with you.
The Role
The primary role of the board is to provide direction and support to fulfill the mission of Lodi Adopt-A-Child. The role is about management and taking responsibility. While there are a large number of volunteers who help us do what’s needed for our programs, it is the directors who make sure that what’s needed is taken care of.
Leadership, governance and oversight:

Ensure that projects/activities support the mission of LAAC

Review outcomes and metrics created by LAAC for evaluating its impact, and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics

Approve LAAC’s annual budget, financial reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities

Plan, participate and attend fundraising events, meet and greets, and events as available.

Representing LAAC to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization

Supervise volunteers, agents and partners of the organization to assure that their duties are performed properly.

Adhere to the duties as described in the corporate bylaws.

Make sure that everything that needs to get done, is taken care of.
Board terms/Participation:
The role of board member is “at will”. There is no fixed term for a director, though it is expected that a director would be on the board for a minimum of at least one year. Directors typically serve for multiple years, until they resign. Directors may also be removed from the board by a majority vote of the remaining directors or as described in the bylaws.
Board meetings are held monthly (except December), in-person at our office at 100 E. Pine St., Lodi. As of March 2026, these meetings are scheduled for the 1st Tuesday of each month (except December). The schedule is subject to change, by a vote of a majority of board members.
In addition to attending board meetings and fulfilling the duties as described above, each director is expected to take on one or more of the responsibilities as described in the addendum to this document. It is critical that the directors’ role is pro-active in the organization, not passive.
The list of responsibilities is subject to, and expected to, change over time. In fact, directors may well recommend a responsibility that has not previously been defined… and take that on.
Time commitment will vary month-to-month depending on specific roles and responsibilities. In addition to attending monthly board meetings, board members should expect to invest at least 2-5 hours per month in support of LAAC activities.
Service on LAAC’s Board of Directors is without remuneration.
Annual Christmas Wish Program
The Christmas Wish Program is, and has been since the inception of LAAC, our largest program supporting children in the community. During the months of October, November and December, the board is actively involved in planning, managing and implementing this program. While recognizing personal and work commitments, board members are expected to be willing and available to help with the needs of the program as much as reasonably possible.

Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and dependability.

Ability to take Initiative – determine what’s needed and make sure that programs/activities have what’s needed to complete.

Organizational, management and communications skills are a plus.

Attention to detail and ability to complete tasks in a timely manner is important.

Ability to meet commitments is essential.

Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
-
Experience in business, philanthropy, fundraising, social media, law and/or the nonprofit sector would be helpful.

Knowledge of computer use and Social Media, specifically use of email, Google Drive, Google applications, Microsoft Office, Canva, Facebook, Instagram, Wix and Hubspot.

Knowledge of, and familiarity with, the Lodi community, organizations, schools, businesses and government is a plus.
